Live updates provided on digital platforms and BBC Sport.
FP1 Results Summary
The team's Spanish veteran set the pace beating Monegasque driver and reigning champion during FP1 at the Marina Bay race.
McLaren's championship contenders Australian rookie and British talent finished the run in fifth and sixth.
Piastri was a notable margin quicker than Norris.
Alonso was a tenth and a half ahead of Leclerc and a clear gap quicker than the Red Bull star.
Ferrari's British icon was P4.
Car Performance
Unlikely that the Silverstone-based team will be in the mix for the top spot.
However, the squad are optimistic of a strong showing on a tight circuit that is ideally suited to their car, which excels when significant amounts of downforce are required.
Double world title winner Fernando is also known as a street circuit master, and often shines on the Marina Bay street track.
However he was likely running reduced weight or a more aggressive setting than his rivals, or each, to achieve that pace.
Practice Conditions
Fellow driver Canadian racer was a significant margin slower in 18th place.
Stroll had issues with his seat at the start and was also testing new components.
Opening practice in Marina Bay is not representative of race pace for qualifying and race as it is conducted in bright conditions in late afternoon, while grid-deciding session and the main event are held under floodlights.
Championship Standings
The McLaren driver is ahead of his teammate by a solid margin with the final stretch left heading into the event in Singapore.
The Woking-based team are in position to wrap up the constructors' championship on the weekend.
The only way they can fail to secure it in Singapore is if the Silver Arrows beat them by 31 points or the Scuderia achieve that by thirty-five.
Red Bull Update
Red Bull are positive of a strong result after Verstappen's victories in the previous rounds ahead of this Grand Prix.
They were relieved when drizzle occurring ahead of FP1 stopped by the moment the cars took to the track on a track that had stayed clear.
Motorsport adviser Red Bull's advisor said before the session that they wanted a clear session to get underway on fine-tuning their car configuration for the Grand Prix.
